The course
Each golf course is unique in its make up of 18 holes and involves walking about 5/6 miles it is often referred to as a round of golf and takes between three to four hours to play
The first shot on each hole is played from a tee area (red for women) where the ball is placed on a plastic or wooden tee between the two tee markers to play the shot.
The aim is to hit the ball down the fairway the closely mowed stretch of grass leading to the green a finely mowed circular of grass which houses the hole/flag/pin in as few shots as possible. Each swing of the golf club (including air shots) plus any penalty stokes count. The fairway is bounded by thicker grass, often called the rough, and there may be other hazards such as bunkers and water along the way.
