Etiquette

Golf Etiquette is about consideration and courtesy towards those playing golf around you and respect for golf courses.

  1. Speaking whilst playing is best in a low tone of voice with mobiles on silent or turned off.
  2. Check you have the golf clothes required usually a collared t-shirt and golf shoes.
  3. Read the local rules of golf for the golf course.

Tee Etiquette

  • Be on time! Ready to play golf by the tee at least 5 minutes before your tee time
  • Have ready a pencil to mark your card, tees and pitch repair fork
  • Know your brand of golf ball marking it also helps it be easily identified when in play
  • Be ready when its your turn to play with your club, glove, tee and ball ready in hand
  • Wait for those playing in front ... hitting them is no way to speed up slow play
  • Honor is normally given to the lowest golf handicap or winner of the last hole
  • Stand still without chatter and out of the players line of sight
  • Watch for your playing golfers ball not just your own
  • Shout 'Fore!' to alert those playing golf that your ball is heading in their direction
  • Shouting, swearing, club throwing, cheating or littering is just not on

Fairway Etiquette

  • The player’s ball furthest from the hole normally plays their next shot first
  • Be ready when its your turn to play with your selected golf club in hand
  • Be aware of all others playing golf around you
  • Replace tuffs of grass made by divots to keep the golf course enjoyable for others
  • Be aware of the playing group in front and behind for the pace of play

Bunkers Etiquette

  • In the rules of golf a player is not allowed to ground a golf club before taking the shot
  • Ensure the rake is nearby before getting into the bunker and playing the shot
  • Take care when lifting the rake out of the bunker not to disturb the sand or ball
  • After the shot smooth out ball marks and footprints in the sand with the rake
  • Leave the rake in the position specified by the local rules of golf

Green Etiquette

  • Observe the putting line of your playing golfers take care not to walk through it
  • A ball hitting the green often leaves a pitch marks ensure these are repaired
  • Keep bags, buggies and trolleys off the green and outside any indicated lines
  • Move off the green as soon as the last player has putt out
  • Recording your score on the next tee while others are playing thier tee shot
  • Be honest about the number of shots you have played
  • Whether you win, lose or finish all-square, you should shake hands with your playing golfers at the end of the game whilst removing you cap/visor
